What happens during the test?
An examiner rides along while you drive a set route, checking your control of the vehicle, observation habits (mirror checks, shoulder checks), lane changes, turns, parking, and how you handle everyday traffic situations like intersections and roundabouts.
How many lessons do I need?
It depends on your starting point and how often you practice, but most learners take somewhere between 10 and 20 in-car lessons before feeling test-ready. Your instructor can give you an honest read on your progress and when to book your test.
Common reasons learners don't pass
The most common issues are incomplete shoulder checks, rolling stops at stop signs, hesitating too long at intersections, and struggling with parallel parking. All of these are exactly what structured lessons with an accredited instructor are built to fix.
After you pass
Passing your road test typically moves you to the next licence stage with fewer restrictions (in Ontario, this is G2). After holding that for the required period, you'll take a second road test for your full licence.
